Virtual Gender Reveal Ideas for Family Who Live Far Away

Gender reveals used to mean one room, one cake and one balloon. Today half the family might be in another city or country. The good news: a virtual reveal can be just as fun, and everyone gets to be part of it at the same moment.
Plan the basics
- Pick a time that works across time zones. A weekend afternoon in one place may be early morning somewhere else.
- Send the invite early with the link and a reminder the day before.
- Ask people to guess first. Collect "team pink" or "team blue" votes in the group chat; it builds the build-up.
Ideas for the video call
1. Everyone scratches at once. Send each guest a link to a gender reveal scratch card before the call. On "three, two, one", everyone scratches on their own phone and the answer appears for all of them at the same moment, with your message and music.
2. A reveal game. Turn it into a game: spin the wheel, tic-tac-toe or pop the hearts until the colour shows. Our gender reveal games work on any phone, so grandparents can play too.
3. Confetti on camera. Do the classic popper or balloon in front of your camera while everyone watches.
4. A cake cut live. Cut a cake with a coloured centre on camera. Ask a family member near you to bake it so you don't know either.
5. Old wives' tales quiz. Before the reveal, run a quick quiz of the old tales (cravings, heartbeat, how you're carrying) and see who guessed right.
For family who can't join live
- Send the reveal link afterwards, so they still get the scratch-or-pop moment rather than a text with the answer.
- Record the call (ask first) and share it with the family group.
- Call grandparents first if they can't be on the call, so they don't see it on social media.
Wording for the invite
- "Pink or blue? Join us online on [date] at [time] to find out!"
- "Grab your phone and your guess: baby [surname] reveal, [date]."
- "Team pink or team blue? The answer arrives on [date]."
After the reveal
Share one photo or clip with everyone who joined, and thank them for being there, wherever "there" was.
